A Little About Us

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation’s (KPC) 2030 Strategic Direction envisions a complex portfolio and an ambitious growth agenda across the entire hydrocarbon value chain. These complexities and growth objectives require unique technologies to be developed to address particular needs of the oil and gas sector in Kuwait.

Hence, in August 2016 KPC Board Subcommittee approved a dedicated physical research center (KIPRC) to undertake Upstream specific R&D activities. KIPRC will focus on Realizing Value from Technology as part of Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) Strategic Objectives by addressing challenges facing Upstream

Some of the key initiatives undertaken will be in the following areas:

  • Production of Heavy Oil
  • Growing and producing non-associated gas
  • Segregating crude streams
  • Enhancing oil recovery through secondary and tertiary methods
  • Identifying sophisticated technical capabilities
  • Operating in a continuously safe and clean environment
  • Unlock unconventional resource base

To be a preeminent research and technology center that maximizes the value of Kuwait’s hydrocarbon resources in a sustainable manner

Leverage internal capabilities and global partnerships to provide cutting edge R&D and Technology solutions to Kuwait’s oil and gas sector

Kuwait International Petroleum Research Center (KIPRC) Incubation at KOC

Following the wish of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, KPC took the initiative to establish the Kuwait International Petroleum Research Center (KIPRC) in 2010, and assigned it to KOC in September 2011. KPC has prioritized the establishment of KIPRC as one of its key Research & Technology (R&T) functional initiatives in the 2030 strategic plans. KIPRC will serve the Research & Development and Technology Management (R&D/TM) needs of the Oil & Gas sector of Kuwait. To deliver this initiative, the KOC R&D Group has been mandated to design KIPRC Operating Model, plan 5-year (R&D/TM) Road Map, build close collaboration with multiple cross-subsidiary entities, oversee the design and construction of KIPRC facility and build the internal capabilities of the center. This Upstream Research Center will have a modern generic architectural style, with modular building layout, optimized office and lab spaces as per industry standards.
